Montage: Victory! Cheerleading Media Celebrate Paris Climate Deal

The moment COP21 negotiators announced they reached a deal to ostensibly curtail global carbon-dioxide emissions, the press began celebrating. In widely circulated cell-phone footage from the summit’s media room, reporters are seen jumping up and down, wildly cheering the announcement.

But the party didn’t stop there. On the airwaves of most TV news networks, anchors and reports kept the celebration going.

“Pretty darn exciting!” acclaimed MSNBC anchor Alex Witt.

“An incredible accomplishment!” raved Mika Brzezinski.

“A tremendous victory for the planet,” exclaimed Chris Hayes.

“Almost hard to overstate the … significance,” exalted CNN’s John Sutter.

“Really a NASA moonshot moment,” cheered MSNBC’s Tony Dokoupil.

Enjoy some of the most hyperbolic commentary in the montage above.
