Roy Moore Is Acting Like a Snowflake

Maybe he could try acting like a properly functioning adult man instead and concede that he lost.

Roy Moore lost the election on Tuesday; it’s now Thursday, and he still has yet to concede — which sounds kind of a lot like a snowflake move to me.

When Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump last year, many people criticized her for refusing to give a concession speech that same night — and honestly, I think that she deserved this criticism. Yes, she may have called Trump to concede privately that night, but I’d still have to agree that her refusal to give a speech was the wrong move. After all, not only did it seem immature and weak for a woman who prides herself on her leadership, but it was also something that she owed to the tens of millions of supporters who were heartbroken by her loss.

What’s more, her refusal to speak — and her seeming refusal to emotionally accept the results of the election — have been things that almost all Trump supporters have had a rip-roaring good time mocking. It’s true: Taunts like “It’s over, she lost!” and “He’s your president! Get over it, snowflake! #MAGA” seem to be among the most commonly used phrases in any diehard Trump fan’s vocabulary.

Here’s the thing, though: Although Clinton’s post-election behavior can certainly be fun to mock, no Trump supporter can in good faith continue to do it unless they’re also going to mock Roy Moore. Not only is he refusing to concede — privately or otherwise — but he’s also doing a bunch of really weird stuff, the kind of stuff that makes using the word “snowflake” to describe him an actual insult to the little wintry wisps of ice that bring joy to so many around the holiday season.

For example: On Wednesday, Moore released a “Campaign Statement” video, and it’s honestly one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen. Rather than concede — like an actual, properly functioning adult man — he instead yammers on about his and his wife’s wedding anniversary, the impending fall of civilization, and sodomy.

Yes, f***ing sodomy:

“We are indeed in a struggle to preserve our republic, our civilization, and our religion and to set free a suffering humanity,” Moore said. “Today, we no longer recognize the universal truth that God is the author of our life and liberty.”

“Abortion, sodomy, and materialism have taken the place of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” he continued.

Truly, the video is so insane that I had to slap myself in the face to make sure I wasn’t dreaming it. A man who lost an election because of credible accusations of child sexual abuse, using what should be his concession platform to critique other people’s consensual sex lives, is so rich that I’d throw up if I ate a bite of it, and it’s hard to believe that it really, truly happened.

Sorry, Moore, but you did not lose because of sodomy, you’re not going to suddenly win because you got in front of a camera to babble about sodomy, and the fact that you think sodomy is at all relevant to any of this makes me even happier that you weren’t elected than I was on Tuesday — which I honestly didn’t think was possible. You’re not a warrior leading some kind of battle, you’re a dude who lost an election who is acting like a child. Grow up, concede, and ride off on the horse you rode in on.
