Jerry Falwell took President Trump’s criticism of Jeff Sessions a step further by calling the attorney general a “coward” on Wednesday.
“I couldn’t agree more. Jeff Sessions must be part of the Bush/Romney/McCain Republican Establishment. He probably supported Donald Trump early in campaign to hide who he really is. Or he could just be a coward,” the Liberty University president wrote on Twitter.

Falwell was agreeing with Trump’s criticism of Sessions’s decision to have Inspector General Michael Horowitz look into allegations that FBI officials abused their power when they spied on Trump campaign official Carter Page. Trump called the inspector general an “Obama guy,” implying his investigation might be biased against Trump.
Republicans have accused FBI officials of deliberately misleading the FISA court to obtain a warrant to illegally surveil Page, who had ties to Russia, as part of the investigation into Russia’s election meddling.
Sessions responded to Trump’s criticism, saying he would do his job “with integrity and honor” as long as he is attorney general.
The former senator from Alabama has a spotless record of honesty in his service to the government, and is liked by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, including the sometimes cantankerous former senator Harry Reid.
Falwell has come out swinging to defend the president several times after Trump has come under fire, including after Trump’s controversial comments about the white-nationalist riots in Charlottesville, Va. Falwell was tapped by the president to chair a task force on reforming the Department of Education after he turned down the Secretary of Education position.
