Pence Predicts Legal Abortion Will End in U.S. ‘in Our Time’

The Vice President said this generation will "restore the sanctity of life."

Vice President Pence said Tuesday he believes legal abortion will end in the United States “in our time.”

“If all of us do all we can, we can once again in our time restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law,” Pence told a crowd at a Nashville lunch given by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List & Life Institute.

The former Indiana governor said he is encouraged by the progress of the Trump administration in this area, which he said is greater than he has seen in his lifetime.

“I know in my heart of hearts this will be the generation that restores life in America.”

The Vice President promised Trump is the “most pro-life president in American history” and is “keeping his word” on fighting abortion.

Congress has struggled to pass legislation that includes protections for unborn children. A bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks of gestation, the stage at which scientific evidence suggests the baby can feel pain, passed in the House but failed in the Senate after Democrats filibustered it.

However, legislation passed last year allowing states to defund Planned Parenthood. President Trump also prohibited federal funding of global programs that support abortions.

Conservatives have lobbied Congress to pull the half a million dollars in federal funding that goes to abortion giant Planned Parenthood every year. Last May, the House passed the massive Obamacare repeal bill that also cut Planned Parenthood’s funding, but no such legislation has been able to make it past the bitterly divided Senate.
