CNN Host Asks Ex-Trump Aide if He’s Drunk On-Air

CNN’s Erin Burnett accused former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg of appearing on her program under the influence of alcohol during a Monday night interview.

The segment concluded Nunberg’s day-long media blitz focusing on his refusal to comply with a subpoena issued by special counsel Robert Mueller.

“We talked earlier about what people in the White House were saying about you ― talking about whether you were drinking or on drugs or whatever had happened today,” she said. “Talking to you, I have smelled alcohol on your breath.”

Nunberg, who was fired from the Trump campaign in August 2015 for years-old racist Facebook posts, insisted on his sobriety.

The former Trump aide sat for a series of back-to-back television appearances Monday to harshly denounce Mueller’s subpoena, which, in addition to commanding his testimony before a grand jury, demands records of correspondence with nine individuals associated with the Trump campaign.

“Let him arrest me,” Nunberg told the Washington Post Monday. “Mr. Mueller should understand I am not going in on Friday.”

Following his high-profile interview with the Post, Nunberg called into MSNBC, CNN, and other cable networks to rail against Mueller’s investigation as a “witch hunt” and complain about the work required to comply with Mueller’s records request.

While Nunberg denied the allegations, three self-described “friends” of his told the Daily Beast they believed he was drinking Monday.

Nunberg reversed his position late Monday night, telling the Associated Press,I’m going to end up cooperating with them.”
