Larry Kudlow will succeed Gary Cohn as top economic adviser to President Donald Trump, according to CNBC, the network where Kudlow works as a contributor.
Trump called Kudlow Tuesday night to offer him the position and Kudlow promptly accepted, a source familiar with the conversation told CNBC. The White House could name Kudlow the National Economic Council director as soon as Thursday.
The White House announced Cohn’s resignation on March 7 following a high-profile internecine dispute over tariffs on steel and aluminum, which Trump signed on Thursday.
Trump hinted at the announcement Tuesday, saying there was “a good chance” Kudlow would be selected for the post.
Kudlow, who worked on Wall Street and advised the Reagan administration before entering economic and financial punditry, has criticized Trump’s protectionist instincts.
