Fearless and Principled Journalism Is Not Cheap

But we are determined to depict reality as it is and defend timeless conservative values.

Regular readers of National Review who have noticed we’ve had a webathon this month might be wondering why. The simple truth is that the type of fearless and principled journalism we produce on a daily basis does not come cheap.

Even though it may be easy to play it safe and pander to the sensitivities of woke corporations, we are determined to depict reality as it is and defend the timeless conservative values National Review has been fighting for since the Eisenhower administration.

We aren’t going to tell Alexandra DeSanctis to back off her passionate defense of the right to life, instruct Maddy Kearns to tone down her searing coverage of transgender issues, or ask Charlie Cooke to pull back from his defense of gun rights — all in hopes of attracting more advertisers.

At the same time, because we want to preserve National Review as the premier destination for thoughtful conservative news and commentary, we aren’t chasing clickbait headlines.

If you are a loyal NRPlus subscriber, we sincerely thank you for your support, and hope you enjoy full access to all web content as well as a limited ad experience. (If you are not already a subscriber, you can sign up here.)

But as fortunate as we are to continue to experience subscriber growth in the face of tight times for media, subscription revenue does not get us the full way to supporting all the writers, editors, staff, and infrastructure required to operate a quality digital- and print-media operation.

That’s why we are asking for your help. Any amount that you could provide — $5, $10, $50, $100, $1,000, or more — would be tremendously appreciated and assist our efforts to produce hard-hitting conservative journalism.

And if you give now, your donation will have double the impact. That’s because a close friend and very generous donor has offered to match, dollar for dollar, every donation toward our current campaign up to $100,000. We are humbled by this opportunity. While we conduct various fundraising drives throughout the year, it is extremely rare for us to have a matching gift quite like this. That is why I hope you will take advantage of it.

As a result of the contributions made to date, we are already most of the way toward our goal. With your help, we can make a final charge toward $100,000.

Thank you for reading and for your support.
