Things are looking up in the fight against transgender ideology. Florida’s medical board banned puberty blockers and transgender surgery for minors. Victims of the transgender medical scandal are beginning to sue. Even the New York Times has started to backtrack.
At National Review, we’ve been sounding the alarm for years and have no intention of stopping. Men aren’t women. Women aren’t men. There are only two sexes. If you agree that journalists ought not to compromise on such basic facts, please consider supporting our webathon appeal.
Of course, it’s ridiculous that stating such obvious truths can get you in trouble. Regrettably though, that’s where we are. On her recent speaking tour, “Let Women Speak,” Kellie-Jay Keen, a women’s-rights activist from England, faced threats of violence simply for acknowledging what a woman is. Keen was unable to attend her own event in New York City because an army of protesters showed up. They were so threatening that no less than 100 NYPD personnel had to intervene.
George Orwell understood that if you can control what people say, you can control what they think. At National Review, we have continued to resist the control of ideologues, speaking freely lest the obvious cease to be obvious. In 2018, when I told my boss, Rich Lowry, that I believed National Review should take the transgender issue seriously, he agreed and threw resources behind that journalistic effort.
