This night is rapidly turning into a disappointment for Republicans, considering the mood of the country, the widespread frustration about the economy and inflation, and President Biden's low approval rating. At this hour, there's no evidence that Don Bolduc ever was a real threat to defeat Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire. Joe O'Dea was always an underdog in Colorado, but he's currently losing by 14 percentage points. Mehmet Oz is trailing John Fetterman, a candidate who could barely debate. Herschel Walker is neck-and-neck with Raphael Warnock. Maybe the GOP still has a shot at the Senate, but we're looking at 51 or 52 seats.

Trump-backed Republican J. D. Vance will defeat Democratic Representative Tim Ryan in the closely watched Senate race in Ohio, according to projections from Fox News decision desk and NBC News.

One bright spot for Republicans in what is shaping up to be a disappointing night nationwide: With more than 95 percent of votes reporting, Ron DeSantis is leading Democratic challenger Charlie Crist by nearly 20 points — 59.6% to to 39.8%. It's tough to believe that Florida was still considered a purple-ish toss-up just a few years ago. In 2012, Obama carried the Sunshine State by less than a point. In 2016, Trump carried it by just over one point. Tonight, Republicans won 20 of Florida's 24 US House seats — a four-seat gain. It's official: Florida is a red state.

50.01% of the vote, to Romney's 49.13%

At this point, Laxalt really better win Nevada.

With a lot of votes left to count, the broader picture here is that this is looking like Republicans will make gains, but that all of the stretch races (such as the NY governor's race, NH Senate, Rep. Abigail Spanberger's district in Virginia, etc.) will remain in Democratic hands. The results we have to this point, are not consistent with a wave, let alone a tsunami.

Fox News Decision Desk calls the Pennsylvania governor race for Democratic state attorney general Josh Shapiro. Shapiro will defeat Trump-backed Republican challenger Doug Mastriano.

This night has obviously taken a turn for the worse. Now I have a friend following GA closely who thinks, given what’s still out, Warnock is going to take the lead again and possibly could get to 50.
