President Biden delivers his State of the Union address Thursday night. The speech comes as likely Republican opponent Donald Trump narrowly leads in the polls, amid voter concerns about immigration, inflation, and the president’s age. Follow along for live updates and analysis from the NR team:

Biden alleges that “freedom and democracy” are under assault “at home” like no point in American history since Lincoln and, presumably, the Civil War. A bit of a stretch.

Oh man, we’re already doing the FDR comparisons. This is a throwback to the very beginning of Biden’s presidency, when several left-leaning historians convinced him he was the heir of FDR and LBJ.

Biden looks like a dazed elderly relative walking into a surprise birthday party.

We got John Fetterman to dress like a grown adult in Congress. We should expect the same from Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Jim Geraghty

Okay, members of Congress. You’ve been waiting all day for your opportunity to take a selfie with President Biden. Make sure you’ve got your phone settings right before he gets to you.

Noah Rothman

“Laken Riley,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green said as she worked her way through her colleagues toward Biden as he meandered toward the podium. “Say her name, Mr. President,” she demanded.

Philip Klein

From the WH pool report: “Pool has arrived at the Capitol. The route did not take us by any large protest groups.” In other words, Biden’s motorcade took an alternate route because he was too afraid to have the protesters cleared away, and as a result is late for his State of the Union Address. An absolutely pathetic display that is indicative of his weak foreign policy, and his fear of the pro-Hamas contingent within his political coalition.

Dominic Pino

If a president was punctual and gave an 8-10 minute speech about something for the State of the Union, the entire country would be grateful.

Jim Geraghty

My younger teenager to me, right now, watching the coverage of all the senators, members of the House, and other Washington officials: “They all look like they want to sell me car insurance.”

Dan McLaughlin

Jim, you will regret asking this when Up With People arrive.
