Recently, I had the honor of being the debate partner of the formidable Miranda Devine, author of the book on the Hunter Biden laptop scandal Laptop from Hell, on the question of whether self-professed socialist Zohran Mamdani is fit to serve as mayor of New York City. (You can guess which side we were on.) Regarding that speaking gig and all other TV appearances I participate in weekly, I’m often asked the same question: “How do you prepare?”
The answer is easy. I read National Review.
My colleagues’ work — eloquent and sophisticated, witty and punchy, always well-researched and authoritative — provides the best debate-prep material I could ever hope to find. Sure, there are other quality publications of conservative thought out there. But if I want to win the argument, or enlighten audiences with incisive points they likely haven’t heard elsewhere, there’s no substitute for reading daily the publication I work for, National Review. And we know that conservative thought leaders and politicians refer to our pages not only for explanations of the day’s most pressing issues, but also for bombshell scoops that can change the political conversation overnight. Your contributions to our fall fundraiser help to support this quality coverage.
There are many talents at National Review, the people I call “triple threats”: brilliant thinkers and compelling writers — who can also command a room or a TV segment. We’re armed with the sharpest affirmative cases and defenses, and we are excited to make them.
Even with Mamdani set to become the mayor of New York City, National Review will continue to fight for the cause of conservative governance. We will not just resist but roll back the rising tide of socialism and other recycled, terrible ideas that require our dedicated debunking.
And we’ll do this in all the most important arenas — in print, online, on the airwaves, on the debate stage. Please, if you haven’t yet, make a contribution of any amount to National Review. Thank you.
