And just like that – Trump amps up the energy with a can’t-lose appeal: The U.S. men’s hockey team, in attendance. The cheers feel wholly unforced now.
Most of those private-sector jobs created have been in health-care and social assistance fields, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and residential care facilities. Many — if not most — of these jobs are indirectly funded by government entitlement programs: Medicare and Medicaid. Other sectors more reliant on private demand have seen either flat or declining employment over the last year.
I’ll just say it: Trump seems slower than he used to be. The lines aren’t hitting like they used to. Part of that is of course the endless pauses for applause, of course.

Trump touted his administration’s efforts to reduce mortgage rates and starting costs for homeowners while also making note of his initiatives aimed at boosting the value of the homes owned by existing property owners. Don’t ask how this administration can ensure that homes remain cheap for buyers but pricy for sellers in the long run. “We’re going to do both,” he said, “and we’re going to keep it that way.”
Venezuela is “our new friend and partner,” huh? Did Delcy Rodriguez get that memo?
