It’s been an enjoyable online phenomenon to see World Cup tourists marvel at America: A dozen varieties of fountain soda? With free refills? Why didn’t anyone tell us?
These soccer fans are discovering the real America unfiltered by news media and Euro-hostility and are finding it’s a pretty great place.
Indeed, it is.
NR is devoted to celebrating and defending this country, from enemies domestic and foreign, from cynics and haters, from anyone who doesn’t realize the stupendous windfall to all of us represented by its constitutional system, robust free market, and vast resources.

National pride is in decline. This is especially true on the left, but the country is subject to a smear campaign from radicals on both sides who depict an America that is unrecognizable to anyone whose perspective isn’t twisted by ideological perversity.
We aren’t the dystopia imagined by Bernie Sanders and AOC, with a billionaire class oppressing and dispossessing everyone else.
Nor are we the dystopia of Candace Owens’s and Tucker Carlson’s imaginations, held in the grip of shadowy forces conspiring to trick us into wars and assassinate prominent Americans.
We are an incredibly open society that rewards talent, that is defined by the rule of law, that constrains government power within constitutional bounds, that is a technological leader, that has a world-class military, that is a byword for freedom and opportunity, and that has easily outpaced other advanced democracies economically over the last ten years.
Part of what those soccer fans are marveling at is the scale of American abundance.
Now, none of this is to suggest that our country is perfect or doesn’t have significant areas that need reform. But at NR we have no tolerance for the psy-op — as the kids say — meant to delegitimize and demoralize America by lying about its Founding, denigrating its economic and constitutional systems, and regurgitating the propaganda of its enemies.
Perhaps the strongest theme of our work in recent years — and perhaps during the lifetime of our publication — has been pushing back against this poisonous anti-U.S. dreck in all its forms.
