Announcing Ad Campaign and New Website: SCOTUS2016.com

I am proud to announce the launch of SCOTUS2016.com, a website designed to inform the public about the background of each presidential candidate on judicial selection and the role of judges.  The website has two main features.  The first is a short video, embedded here, which is running on TV in Iowa, New Hampshire, and the Washington, D.C. area.  The second, the list of candidates, is designed to provide visitors with information about each of the presidential candidates.  We hope you will find the information useful as the election cycle unfolds, and that the project will increase the amount of discussion taking place about the future of our federal courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court in particular.

With regard to the video, it is impossible to convey everything that needs to be conveyed in just 30 seconds, but we hope this much is clear:  We need a president who will choose nominees with a proven record of adhering to the text and original meaning of the Constitution, and then fight for the confirmation of those nominees.  In my lifetime, Republicans have had three presidents and seven Supreme Court appointments.  Yet, as each June rolls around, we still wonder whether several of those appointees will do what is right or what is most politically attractive.  It is time for Republicans to make the courts a much higher priority, because, as the video explains, we can’t afford more surprises.
