Another Biden Judicial Nominee with Connections to Robert Raben

Sparkle Sooknanan, a nominee to the District Court for the District of Columbia, is among the judicial nominees that the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on today during its markup.

Sooknanan’s questions for the record disclose that after her nomination was announced, she spoke with Robert Raben, who “offered his general assistance,” and in addition to two of his colleagues at the ultra-liberal Raben Group. I previously explored how beholden to dark-money interests the Raben Group is when I discussed the Seventh Circuit nomination of Nancy Maldonado, who is also on the agenda for today’s markup.

This begs the question: Why are certain of Biden’s judicial nominees in contact with Robert Raben and his consulting firm regarding their nominations? And further, what role does Robert Raben have in steering judicial selection for the Biden administration?

Don’t expect Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to express concern about that today.
