As expected, there wasn’t much real action today. I thought that the statements of the Republican senators were strong, but the Democrats were equally vigorous in making the case for Judge Sotomayor. Sotomayor did fine in her largely autobiographical opening statement, though I’m sure that Republican senators will be eager to explore some of the seeming inconsistencies between her statements today about the role of a judge and statements that she has previously made. Things should liven up with the questioning tomorrow. I’ll plan to live-blog.
