In an excellent column last week (titled “Justice’s Liberal Slush Fund”), the Wall Street Journal’s Kim Strassel outlines how the Justice Department is using settlements with corporate defendants to funnel millions and millions of dollars to left-wing activist groups. Strassel’s column reminds me of a similar (but much smaller-scale) IRS giveaway that I discussed some years ago.
This sort of activity ought to provide a field day for investigative journalists, as it’s a safe bet that there are a lot of very cozy relationships between officials in the Obama administration and leaders of the left-wing groups. If a Republican administration had tried anything similar, there would have been a massive outcry. The silence now would suggest that many reporters have their own very cozy relationships with the folks involved.
