Justice Stephen Breyer is fluent in French and spends his summers re-reading Proust in the original. So I’m quite surprised to see this botch—lassez-faire instead of laissez-faire—in the first sentence of his dissent in today’s antitrust ruling in Ohio v. American Express Co.:

Indeed, it’s amazing that none of the other justices who joined his opinion and none of their law clerks caught it.
