James Rosen’s New Biography of Antonin Scalia

I very much enjoyed reading journalist James Rosen’s new biography of Antonin Scalia, Scalia: Rise to Greatness, 1936-1986. As the subtitle indicates, the book covers the first fifty years of Scalia’s life, through his appointment to the Supreme Court in 1986. Rosen will cover Scalia’s tenure as a justice in a second volume.

I expect to publish a review of Rosen’s biography soon, so I will refrain from general commentary on it here. I will probably do some posts on specific matters that my review won’t address in detail.

I’m pleased to note that Rosen makes good use of Scalia Speaks: Reflections on Law, Faith, and Life Well Lived, the highly acclaimed New York Times bestselling volume of Scalia’s speeches that Christopher Scalia and I edited. If you haven’t read Scalia Speaks yet, I assure you that you will enjoy it.
