I’m amused to see that what a soliciting e-mail describes as “a letter of support from law professors nationwide” states that Judge Sotomayor’s “rulings exhibit unfailing adherence to the rule of law,” “reflect careful attention to the facts of each case and a reading of the law that demonstrates fidelity to the text of statutes and the Constitution,” and so on. I wonder how many of the law professors who eagerly sign their names to the letter will actually have done the due diligence necessary to form a responsible opinion on the matters to which they so lavishly attest.
