Kathryn: I have a great deal of respect for Ken Starr, who has been doing heroic work in defense of California’s Proposition 8 and in opposition to the California supreme court’s invention last year of a state constitutional right to same-sex marriage. But I find it very strange that he would announce his support for Judge Sotomayor’s nomination, not least because Sotomayor may well be the fifth vote to invent a federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage. Starr’s reported reasons appear very thin, and it’s not at all clear that he has any real familiarity with her record.
