She asks if anybody objected to her “wise Latina” comment in her earlier confirmation hearings, and of course Judge Sotomayor said no. First, implicit in this is, of course, the acknowledgment that this is something she has said lots of times. Second, so what? The stakes are a lot higher now, and the scrutiny a lot stricter.
I must, however, give Judge Sotomayor props for being a Perry Mason fan and, even more remarkably, her willingness to profess admiration for Hamilton Burger, Perry’s long-suffering nemesis.
