Sotomayor Hearing—Whitehouse’s Round 1

In questioning from Senator Whitehouse, Judge Sotomayor said that the PRLDEF board did not review and approve specific briefs.  Sotomayor also suggested that she wouldn’t have gotten involved in matters, like civil rights, in which she had no experience.  Are these artful and evasive answers?  Or did the New York Times get it all wrong?  Given the overall pattern of the hearing, I’d bet on the former.

Republican senators need to nail down what her involvement was generally in PRLDEF’s litigation and what role she played, including in reviewing draft briefs, in particular controversial matters.
