Assisted Suicide Loses in New Mexico

We keep hearing how legalized assisted suicide is unstoppable. And yet, over the last twenty-five-plus years, it is stopped again and again and again.

We also hear that only conservatives oppose legalization, when in fact, many liberals also understand that assisted suicide is bad medicine and even worse public policy.

The thing is: Stories of all those assisted suicide defeats are barely reported, and soon disappear into the ether as the “unstoppable” story line appears again.

So, let us briefly pause to recognize a splendid defeat for assisted suicide legalization in New Mexico, where 15 Republicans and 7 Democrats joined together to reject doctor-prescribed death.  That kills assisted suicide for the year in New Mexico.

So, good news on the culture of death front that illustrates the falsity of the “inevitable” and “only conservatives oppose” assisted suicide narratives. Onward!
