Ayotte: ‘We Need Leadership’ from Obama on Sequester

Senator Kelly Ayotte blasted the Democrats’ approach to the sequester on CBS’s Face the Nation this morning: “It seems like the first thing they [Senate Democrats] come up with is we are going to increase taxes.” Senator Ayotte promised that she will soon unveil “an alternative spending cut proposal in the Senate” to avoid the sequester. Her plan will involve attrition of federal employees coupled with other spending cuts. She also derided her colleagues’ proposal to give the president the authority to make the spending cuts as “a cop out.” Senator Ayotte called on President Obama to help stop the sequester: “We’ve been asking about this for a year. On the campaign, he said this wasn’t going to happen. It’s time for him to lead this effort as the commander-in-chief of this country.”
