Chicago Teachers’ Union President Jokes about City’s Gun Violence

Gun violence has plagued Chicago for years, but one of the city’s most influential liberal leaders made light of the problem during a recent speech. During remarks at conference of union activists earlier this month, Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis said that pension negotiations can feel like a street shooting.

“‘Take this cut or nothing’ — that’s not a choice,” Lewis said. It’s like being asked “you going to shoot me here or here?” she said.

“I’m still shot — this is Chicago,” she said.

The Windy City suffered 415 murders in 2013. While violence is down slightly this year, NBC Chicago reports that 9 people were killed in shootings and another 35 injured this past weekend alone.

The Left seems to have a particularly hard time deciding these days. Take, for example, the high-school students from Parkland, ... Read More
