Christie Tiptoes Around Path to Citizenship Questions

Although he urged national leaders to find a solution to a “broken” immigration system, New Jersey governor Chris Christie refused to take a position on the issue, particularly when pressed on a pathway to citizenship. “I think the national solution has to be figured by the people who are in charge of our national government — my job is to fix what’s going on in New Jersey,” he told This Week’s George Stephanopoulos on Sunday.

Christie continued to sidestep the issue by saying he’s not in a position to make a determination on a national solution. Pointing to the governor’s past policies on the issue of immigration within his own state, such as offering children of undocumented immigrants in-state tuition, Stephanopoulos pressed Christie to just give an opinion.

“I could have an opinion about lots of things, but we’re not going to go through all that this morning, are we?” Christie responded before both moved on to another subject.
