David Brooks: Heritage Action ‘Runs’ the GOP

The debate over immigration reform is not about policy, New York Times columnist David Brooks said Sunday on Meet the Press.

After Heritage Action president Michael Needham spoke about a number of policy concerns he had with respect to the immigration debate, Brooks interjected, saying: “I don’t think it’s about policy.”

“It’s about who runs the Republican party,” Brooks said. ”Do the leaders who want to have a long-term future, a presidential, national future as a multi-racial party, do they run the party, or does Mike [Needham] run the party? And the truth is, Mike runs the party.”
