Dick and Lynne Cheney Issue Statement about Liz Cheney’s Same-Sex Marriage Views

Wyoming GOP Senate candidate Liz Cheney has been in the hot seat since she said Sunday that she did not agree with her lesbian sister, Mary Cheney, on the issue of same-sex marriage.

“I love Mary very much. I love her family very much. This is just an issue on which we disagree,” Liz Cheney told Fox News Sunday. In response, Mary Cheney and her wife, Heather Poe, criticized Liz Cheney on Facebook posts. “Liz — this isn’t just an issue on which we disagree — you’re just wrong — and on the wrong side of history,” wrote Mary Cheney.

Former vice president Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, issued a statement today addressing the family argument. “This is an issue we have dealt with privately for many years, and we are pained to see it become public,” wrote the Cheneys.

“Since it has, one thing should be clear. Liz has always believed in the traditional definition of marriage,” the couple added. “She has also always treated her sister and her sister’s family with love and respect, exactly as she should have done. Compassion is called for, even when there is disagreement about such a fundamental matter and Liz’s many kindnesses shouldn’t be used to distort her position.”

During a CNN town hall on gun control, a furious crowd of Americans jeered at two conservatives, Marco Rubio and Dana Loesch, who stood in defense of the Second ... Read More

Why We Can’t Have Wakanda

SPOILERS AHEAD Black Panther is a really good movie that lives up to the hype in just about every way. Surely someone at Marvel Studios had an early doubt, reading the script and thinking: “Wait, we’re going to have hundreds of African warriors in brightly colored tribal garb, using ancient weapons, ... Obstruction Confusions

In his Lawfare critique of one of my several columns about the purported obstruction case against President Trump, Gabriel Schoenfeld loses me — as I suspect he will lose others — when he says of himself, “I do not think I am Trump-deranged.” Gabe graciously expresses fondness for me, and the feeling is ... Set NASA Free

The Trump administration has proposed shifting the International Space Station from a NASA-exclusive research facility to a semi-public, semi-private one. Its plan would nix all government funding for the ISS by 2025 and award at least $150 million per year to NASA to help with the transition. This would be a ... Read More
