Down with Hemlock

There’s only so much hemlock even Jay Nordlinger and I can drink, so this week’s Need to Know podcast turned out to be lighthearted and fun. We leave the miserable topic of the shutdown showdown in the rear-view mirror and discuss unions (how Jay wishes he could be pro-union in a Triangle Shirtwaist sort of way; alas, that’s not our time), debt (how both parties and the voters have gotten us to $17 trillion), the politically incorrect humor of The Simpsons, knowing your pop culture, California’s new law giving children multiple legal parents (that won’t lead to chaos, right?), a sharecropper’s son who is now one of the richest men on the planet, leaving Afghanistan, the Redskins, and more.

There is gloom to be had aplenty in this world, but not on Need to Know – not this week anyway. Join us.

Last night, the nation witnessed what looked a lot like an extended version of the famous “two minutes hate” from George Orwell’s novel 1984. During a CNN town hall on gun control, a furious crowd of Americans jeered at two conservatives, Marco Rubio and Dana Loesch, who stood in defense of the Second ... Read More
