Former Commerce Secretary: We Need 1 Million More Immigrants a Year

Former Commerce secretary Carlos Gutierrez says America needs 1 million more immigrants every year to close our agricultural-jobs gap. The Senate Gang of Eight bill would allow for just over 300,000 new agriculture visas over the next three years.

Gutierrez also criticized the Gang of Eight’s bill for capping construction visas at 15,000 a year: “We need 15,000 workers in Miami. Where are we going to get the rest?”

Perhaps he could ask the 12.8 percent of American construction workers who were unemployed in February.
