Friedman: Raise Gas Taxes to Stop Putin

NYT columnist Thomas Friedman is in a rage over Putin’s blatant aggression–partly our fault, he says, because NATO expanded east after the fall of the USSR.

But this is more than a globe-trotting establishment columnist can take. Time to unleash our collective inner Hulk. From, “Why Putin Doesn’t Respect Us:”

I’d also raise our gasoline tax, put in place a carbon tax and a national renewable energy portfolio standard — all of which would also help lower the global oil price (and make us stronger, with cleaner air, less oil dependence and more innovation). You want to frighten Putin? Just announce those steps.

Yea, he’ll really be shaking in his boots. Good grief.
