The Corner

Dan’s post, below, reminds me of something that I witnessed while in college. The kids — the Left — marched through campus chanting, “Reagan, Bush, you can’t hide, we charge you with gen-o-cide.” What they meant was that the incumbent administration was seeking to slow the rate of growth of social-welfare spending. “Genocide.”

This was, by the way, less than ten years after Cambodia, less than 40 years after the Nazis. “Reagan, Bush, you can’t hide, we charge you with gen-o-cide.” Such was the moral idiocy that pushed me a long way from the Left.

Jesse Jackson now calls Republican health-care policy “genocide,” or “creeping genocide.” I would quote that bit about “Have you no decency?” but it’s too clichéd. Instead, I will ask this: If Republican health-care policy is genocide, what word does he have left for Rwanda, for Sudan? Jesse Jackson is selling moral idiocy.

The Gun-Control Debate Could Break America

Last night, the nation witnessed what looked a lot like an extended version of the famous “two minutes hate” from George Orwell’s novel 1984. During a CNN town hall on gun control, a furious crowd of Americans jeered at two conservatives, Marco Rubio and Dana Loesch, who stood in defense of the Second ... Read More
