How to Get to a Brokered Convention

On the homepage, I take a look at how to get a brokered convention. In my piece, there’s a link to a spreadsheet you can use to imagine different delegate counts. The counts I use are unofficial, but you can update the spreadsheet with the real numbers when they’re announced. The formulas will still hold.

I envision a scenario in which Mitt Romney comes very close to the 1,142 delegates necessary to win the nomination, but because of strong showings by Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul, is ultimately unable to do so. The piece is highly speculative, and each state has quirks that I disregard for simplicity’s sake. But it’s still interesting to play around with the numbers.
