It’s all about “context” …

I’ll see your Andrew Breitbart and raise you “Jewish domination of the media”!

It turns out Shirley Sherrod isn’t the only who’s been taken out of context. Let’s not forget what they’ve done to … Adolph Hitler! So says Oliver Stone in an interview with the Times of London (subscription only) about which News Busters has the story.

America’s focus on the murder of 6 million Jews, says the director, is a product of the “Jewish domination of the media.” In his upcoming Showtime documentary series, “Secret History of America,” he hopes to put not only the Fuhrer “in context.” but Joseph Stalin as well. Sure, “Hitler was a Frankenstein,” Stone explains, ”but there was also a Dr Frankenstein. German industrialists, the Americans and the British. He had a lot of support.”

Evidently, those media-savvy Jews don’t need any context. They are ”the most powerful lobby in Washington,” filled with “hard workers,” who “stay on top of every comment.” It is thanks to them, Stone says, that ”Israel has f***** up United States foreign policy for years.”

Stone continued to show Hugo Chavez the love. When the Times correspondent attempted to consider the Venezuelan strongman’s in the context of his woeful human rights record, Stone was dismissive, contending that U.S. ally Colombia (among others) is worse. By contrast, Stone was all for more context for his new pal, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. “Iran isn’t necessarily the good guy,” said Stone, ”but we don’t know the full story!”

Can’t wait for him to tell us.

Last night, the nation witnessed what looked a lot like an extended version of the famous “two minutes hate” from George Orwell’s novel 1984. During a CNN town hall on gun control, a furious crowd of Americans jeered at two conservatives, Marco Rubio and Dana Loesch, who stood in defense of the Second ... Read More

Obstruction Confusions

In his Lawfare critique of one of my several columns about the purported obstruction case against President Trump, Gabriel Schoenfeld loses me — as I suspect he will lose others — when he says of himself, “I do not think I am Trump-deranged.” Gabe graciously expresses fondness for me, and the feeling is ... Students’ Anti-Gun Views

Are children innocents or are they leaders? Are teenagers fully autonomous decision-makers, or are they lumps of mental clay, still being molded by unfolding brain development? The Left seems to have a particularly hard time deciding these days. Take, for example, the high-school students from Parkland, ... Read More

Kill Chic

We live in a society in which gratuitous violence is the trademark of video games, movies, and popular music. Kill this, shoot that in repugnant detail becomes a race to the visual and spoken bottom. We have gone from Sam Peckinpah’s realistic portrayal of violent death to a gory ritual of metal ripping ... Read More
