However badly progressive politics hurts a city, state, or country, its adherents seemingly never stop to re-consider the wisdom of their ideas. Always, the solution to lives destroyed by progressivism is more progressivism; the solution to the failure of Democrats is to elect more Democrats; and the price to be paid for overregulation is more regulation. In this mold, California and Detroit spring to mind — but they are hardly alone. Statism begets statism.
Meanwhile, if conservatives do the slightest, tiniest, little thing in the afflicted towns or state — or miles outside, for that matter — well, the predicament is all their fault.
