McCain to Pen Pravda Op-Ed

Take that, Putin: Senator John McCain will submit an opinion piece for Pravda in response to the Russian president’s op-ed in the New York Times.

While discussing press freedoms in Russia with CNN’s Jake Tapper last night, McCain commented, hypothetically, that he’d “love to have a commentary in Pravda,” the Russian Communist party’s newspaper.

Foreign Policy sent the paper a transcript and Pravda responded enthusiastically to the idea. Dmitry Sudakov, its English editor, said that it would be happy to publish a piece “by such a prominent politician as John McCain,” which would be run in English and Russian.

“There are a lot of issues that I’m sure Sen. McCain would want to address,” a McCain spokesman told Foreign Policy. “Democracy and human rights in Russia and certainly the Putin regime’s aiding and abetting of the Syrian regime, which has killed 100,000 of its own people.”

The Gun-Control Debate Could Break America

Last night, the nation witnessed what looked a lot like an extended version of the famous “two minutes hate” from George Orwell’s novel 1984. During a CNN town hall on gun control, a furious crowd of Americans jeered at two conservatives, Marco Rubio and Dana Loesch, who stood in defense of the Second ... Read More
