Merry St. Nicholas Day!

Today’s the feast day of St. Nicholas, the fourth-century bishop of Myra (renamed Demre by the invaders), who is the inspiration for our Santa Claus. Hilariously, the local Turk authorities, whose ancestors murdered or enslaved the Greek St. Nicholas’s people (and murdered or drove out the few that remained in the country during pogroms in 1955) now are insisting they get back the saint’s remains (Italian sailors rescued his relics from the Seljuks in 1087). How about this? They transfer Hagia Sophia back to its rightful owners, and then they can have Nicholas’s remains back.

In his Lawfare critique of one of my several columns about the purported obstruction case against President Trump, Gabriel Schoenfeld loses me — as I suspect he will lose others — when he says of himself, “I do not think I am Trump-deranged.” Gabe graciously expresses fondness for me, and the feeling is ... Set NASA Free

The Trump administration has proposed shifting the International Space Station from a NASA-exclusive research facility to a semi-public, semi-private one. Its plan would nix all government funding for the ISS by 2025 and award at least $150 million per year to NASA to help with the transition. This would be a ... Read More
