Obama Confronted by Immigration Hecklers Again

After a back-and-forth with a disappointed protester at an immigration-reform rally earlier in the day on Monday, another group of hecklers interrupted President Obama during a fundraising speech in San Francisco to ask him to sidestep Congress with executive orders slowing deportations.

“We got this Constitution,” he responded, trying to extinguish the chants, according to pool reports. “We got this whole thing about separation of powers and branches. . . . There is no shortcut to politics. And there’s no shortcut to democracy.”

Instead, he told the protesters at the $15,000-per-ticket event, supporters of the Senate’s comprehensive immigration-reform bill had to “win on the merits of the argument with the American people, as laborious as it seems.”
