Oregon Puts Out Trippy Commercial for Obamacare

Cover Oregon, Oregon’s health-insurance exchange, has a trippy offering for its second song-filled advertisement.

“Fly With Your Own Wings” shows animated Oregonians using befeathered objects to rise into the sky and combine into a gigantic bird, which then transforms into the Cover Oregon logo. The score, provided by Portland musician Dave Depper, has lyrics declaring that Oregonians are “free to be healthy.”

To my ears, the ad also makes use of the famous “Wilhelm Scream” sound effect at the 0:11 mark, but the song mostly drowns it out.

The words “free to be healthy” aren’t unique to the video. The “Live Long in Oregon” ad has singer Laura Gibson using the same phrase.
