Perry: Social Security ‘Ponzi Scheme’

Earlier this month, Rick Perry’s communication director Ray Sullivan tried to downplay how much the ideas presented in Fed Up! represented Perry’s current views. But this weekend, Perry doubled down on his characterization of Social Security in the book.

“It is a Ponzi scheme for these young people,” Perry said Saturday at a campaign event in Ottuma, Iowa, according to the Houston Chronicle. “The idea that they’re working and paying into Social Security today, that the current program is going to be there for them, is a lie. It is a monstrous lie on this generation, and we can’t do that to them.”

Later that day Perry told a reporter asking about how representative Fed Up! was of his current views that “I haven’t backed off anything in my book.”
