Re: Regarding the War on Earmarks

Kathryn gives Eric Cantor the benefit of the doubt on earmarks.  As someone who has been misquoted by the press myself, I’m more than willing to believe that the “merit” remark was Politico’s interpretation, not what Cantor actually said. 

Still, it sounds a lot like what Cantor told Laura Ingraham: “Listen, there will — if these earmarks come back, there will have to be a demonstration to the American people that their taxpayer dollars are being spent prudently in a way with a federal purpose.” 

That’s better than the past, but still sounds to me like something short of an outright earmark ban.
