Reid: Ted Kennedy is ‘Going to Smile’ Down on Us for Passing Immigration

The late Ted Kennedy will smile down on Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and the rest of the Gang of Eight when the Senate passes immigration reform next week, Harry Reid said on the floor this afternoon. The longtime Massachusetts senator served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security prior to Schumer.

“Ted Kennedy, I’m sure, is going to wait until next Friday, he’s going to smile at all of us,” Reid said, looking up to the sky, “because this is a remarkably good piece of work, something he tried to do for a long time.”

Kennedy was a major part of the 2007 comprehensive immigration-reform bill negotiations that ultimately failed in the Senate.
