The Obama administration’s announcement that it would extend the Obamacare enrollment deadline past March 31 for special circumstances comes two weeks after Kathleen Sebelius told the House Ways and Means Committee just the opposite.
On March 12, Representative Kevin Brady (R., Texas) inquired as to what other delays to the law were to come. “Are you going to delay the open enrollment beyond March 31?” he asked.
“No, sir,” Sebelius responded. Later, when asked if the department had the authority to extend the deadline, the Health and Human Services secretary said she did not know, but that it wouldn’t be an issue because it would not be delayed.
