Sen. Blumenthal: ‘We Have to Consider’ Delaying Obamacare’s Individual Mandate

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.) said this morning that a delay of Obamacare’s individual mandate should be considered.

“We have to consider delaying the mandate, that is, the penalty,” Blumenthal said on MSNBC.

“The important point here is that we need more certainty . . . both as to the open enrollment period, which is scheduled to end on March 31, and imposition of that penalty. There may be a need for delays if these kinds of [technical] problems continue,” Blumenthal said.

Blumenthal is not the only Democratic senator to suggest delaying elements of the law. Senators Mark Pryor (D., Ark.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D., N.H.) have called for lengthening the enrollment period. Senator Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) backs a delay of the mandate.

Fire the FBI Chief

American government is supposed to look and sound like George Washington. What it actually looks and sounds like is Henry Hill from Goodfellas: bad suit, hand out, intoning the eternal mantra: “F*** you, pay me.” American government mostly works by interposition, standing between us, the free people at ... Black Panther’s Circle of Hype

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) first infantilizes its audience, then banalizes it, and, finally, controls it through marketing. This commercial strategy, geared toward adolescents of all ages, resembles the Democratic party’s political manipulation of black Americans, targeting that audience through its ... Read More
