“Echoing the view of other Democratic leaders, he said that Republicans would also pay a price for voting overwhelmingly against the economic stimulus bill Mr. Obama is set to sign on Tuesday.

“The bill passed with the support of just three Republican senators. Mr. Menendez said that the vote would be remembered as a defining moment for the two parties, and would shadow Republicans going into the 2010 election.”
