Utah Senator Orrin Hatch: ‘I’ve Decided to Retire at the End of This Term.’

Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, the longest-serving Republican senator in U.S. history, announced today that he will retire at the end of this term. “I’ve always been a fighter; I was an amateur boxer in my youth, and i’ve brought that fighting spirit with me to Washington. But every good fighter knows when to hang up the gloves, and for me, that time is soon approaching.”

Many conservatives applauded Hatch’s record over his seven terms in the Senate, but at 83 years old, it is probably time for Hatch to enjoy retirement.

Two little-known Democrats filed papers to run for the U.S. Senate in 2018. Many have speculated that former presidential candidate Mitt Romney may be interested in running for this Senate seat.
