BBC Covers Muslims Differently Because of Violence

BBC director-general Mark Thompson said in a recent interview that the BBC covers Muslims differently than Christians. He argued that Christianity is a “pretty broad-shouldered” religion, and that the media should be more sensitive toward Islam, since it has a “very close identity with ethnic minorities.”

He also offered a frank assessment of the media’s reaction to threats of violence. “Without question, ‘I complain in the strongest possible terms,’ is different from, ‘I complain in the strongest possible terms and I am loading my AK47 as I write,’” he said.
