The New York Times’ “Lens” blog has a powerful slide-show up of Times photographer Joao Silva’s last photos in Afghanistan before he stepped on a mine and lost both of his legs. He’s currently recuperating at Walter Reade.

These final three shots were taken after the mine went off and before he lost the strength to hold his camera up any longer:

You wouldn’t know it from the last last election, but there’s still a war on. Focus, people, as Mr. Silva has done.
