Don’t Know Much About Liberty

In an op-ed for McClatchy News Service that is now on the Pope Center Site, Jane Shaw laments the perplexing lack of commencement speakers’ discussing the foundations of liberty. You would think that liberty would be an important topic for our “future leaders of tomorrow” to hear about.

Perhaps the idea of liberty is too radical for our modern campuses (where arguments for the right of animals to sue humans seem mainstream). Or maybe it’s a little too “dead, white male” (some of whom got dead fighting for liberty) for the multicultural Meccas of academia.
